What is WeAlmaty?

WeAlmaty is a three-year initiative that aims to help the city of Almaty to realise its 2020 development vision around culture, business and active citizenship by supporting local authority leaders to work with civil society. It is run by a coalition made up of the British Council, the Kazakh-British Technical University, Almaty Akimat and the Almaty Development Centre, and funded by a grant from the European Union.

Who can participate?

Every citizen who is keen on taking steps to make their city a better place can take part in the project. To participate, fill in an application form, which will be available on our website shortly. For announcements about upcoming events and other updates, please check our website regularly and subscribe to our newsletter.

How can I take part in the project?

As part of the project we will organize a number of forums and workshops, and disburse small grants to support citizen-led initiatives. We will be publishing details on our website. You can also subscribe to our newsletter, through which we will announce upcoming events

What events are you planning?

Across the three years of the project we will organize twelve forums on different themes related to the city’s development; six workshops for government representatives, businesses and interested citizens aimed at developing collaboration skills and multi-sector partnerships and projects; and two calls for small grants to support citizen-led projects.

Can I become a trainer for WeAlmaty?

Unfortunately, the trainers for the project have been already recruited following a competitive application process. However, you can take part in our workshops, where you will have the chance to implement your own project. Each planned event will be announced on our website.
